TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
JUNE
27, 2011
CALL TO ORDER: The Town Council President Brian Hayes called
the Town Council meeting to order at 6:00 pm.
Attendees:
Ed Miller
MINUTES: Kathy Kope moved, seconded by Steve Smith to
approve the minutes of the May 24, 2011 council meeting.
FIRE: The Hudson Volunteer Fire Department will be
having another boot drive on Saturday, July 2nd at SR 4 and Main Street
from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00pm. The Ashley Fire Department is hosting a medical
first responder class that 4 of our members will be attending: Firefighter Randy Batchelder received his
first responder at the beginning of June to bring the total number of medics we
have to eleven (11). The alternator in the grass rig was replaced at a cost of
$370. Four tires and rear brakes were replaced on the Command truck. Bill Ebert and Ward Odom attended the annual
Assistance to Firefighters Grant training in Huntington on June 7th. The intention is to reapply for a quick
attack. Additionally, a grant will be
prepared for updated radios. The next
scheduled fundraiser will be on August 6th, which will be a
breakfast from 6:00 am to 10:00 am to kick off the day for the Ashley-Hudson
Festival. During June, there were 14
calls for the month so far.

The
Town Council expressed thanks to the volunteers of the fire department for the
work done during the storm at the beginning of the month.
MARSHAL: 8 warnings, 21 citations, 20 incident reports,
2 other agency incidents,
UTILITY DEPARTMENT: The
annual Consumer Confidence Report for fiscal year 2010 was posted at public
businesses and hand delivered to all customers.
Five additional radio read water meters have
been set in the month of June leaving seven radio read meters to install. Water and sewer service connection will be
installed for a new home. The location
will be east of Hardy Street on the south side of Dole Street. Two autistic child signs will be installed
along the street right-of-way in the area of 204 W. Wabash Street.
CLERK’S
REPORT We need to schedule a budget meeting. The council decided to
meet on Thursday, July 7 at 6:00 pm. Our first meeting with DLGF for 2012
budget is July 12. On May 18, we both attended Steuben County Auditor training
on the new web based budget program, Gateway, at Carnegie Library, Angola. On
June 28, we both attended the annual IACT budget workshop in Huntertown. Next
Town Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 26.
TOWN MANAGER: 4 purchase orders
were issued in June (May 16 to June 19) for $909.99 with a total of 42 purchase
orders worth $ 18,410.90 for the year to date. In May, there were 2,941 visits
to 4,814 pages on the web site. Ammonia for the month of May was 28.8, down
from the prior month of 33.3, on 1,222,000 gallons of monthly waste water flow.
After sending out a request for
proposals on street repairs for 2011 to ten (10) firms, two (2) firms have
quoted: Brooks Construction: $ 79, 413.00 for listed projects, $ 7,300.00 for
crack sealing Pulver Asphalt Paving, Inc.: $ 71,452.50 for
listed projects, $ 1.90 per pound for crack sealing. President Hayes asked the
Town Manager negotiate with them on doing both projects at a lower price, the other
council members were in agreement. The development on the west side is awaiting
final approval by the Town’s attorney and the buyer’s attorney on a purchase
agreement. The next Ashley-Hudson Festival Committee meeting is July 11 at 6:00
p.m. at the Hudson Town Hall.
