TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

AUGUST 23, 2011

 

CALL TO ORDER:  The Town Council President Brian Hayes called the Town Council meeting to order at 6:10 pm.

MINUTES: Kathy Kope moved, seconded by Steve Smith to approve the minutes of the July 25, 2011 council meeting.

 

FIRE:  The Ashley Hudson Festival breakfast was successful serving approximately 237 people. Having 2 medical helicopters come in for the festival was also successful with many people showing interest and asking a lot of questions. Many are wondering if this will be done again. The Hudson water war was a huge success with about 85 people attending and wanting to do it again. 57 door prizes were given away. One quote for radios and pagers is still pending for the AFG grant application. The department obtained a floating pump from Fremont Fire Department which was purchased from fundraiser funds for $300.00. This pump can be set up at a lake or in a pond to fill tankers freeing up a piece of apparatus. A new pump like this would cost $2800.00 if it were bought new. All members have been trained on this and it is in service.  There have been 5 calls for the month of August so far:

MARSHAL:  

 

UTILITY DEPARTMENT:  Milliman`s Septic Service is in the process pumping septic tanks in the west section of town. Residential water and sewer service has been established at the address: 412 Hardy Street. The utility department has acquired a Marklift platform lift that will be used for any task that it was designed for. Also, two body harness and lanyards were purchased for personal safety. The utility department also acquired an electric utility cart that will come in handy for local service and town activities. Some electrical repairs were made to make it operational.  Once the Certificate of Origin is obtained, it is a street legal vehicle and will be licensed

 

CLERK’S REPORT   Budget adoption and the next Town Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27. 6:00 p.m.

 

TOWN MANAGER:  15 purchase orders were issued in August (July 18 to August 14) for $171,700.64, the majority for the Redevelopment Commission and for street repairs with a total of 64 purchase orders worth $192,153.10 for the year to date. In August, there were 2,653 visits to 4,994 pages on the Hudson web pages.

Ammonia for the month of July was 58.5, up from the prior month of 28.8, on 702,000 gallons of monthly waste water flow, 6,713,000 total flows for the year.  Pulver Asphalt Paving, Inc. will begin the street repairs on September 1.  Homer Eash will be crack sealing all streets except west Parsonage and Noll Streets through October 30. Purchase of the property on the west side and the sale of 10.46 acres of it to South Milford Grain Co., Inc. have been completed.  Purchase orders have been released for water, waste water, and road construction which is expected to start very soon.  Noble REMC and NIPSCO are refining their estimates for electrical and natural gas service. There has been an inquiry concerning the remaining 37.5 acres of land on the west of Hudson for a project involving a cable manufacturer, 250-300 jobs at approx. $ 45,000 each. There is a Port Authority meeting tomorrow at 4:00 in the Steuben County Community Center.

 

OLD BUSINESS: None

NEW BUSINESS:  Louise Brock asked to be able to drive the electric truck to haul water, etc. when she watered and took care of the flowers in town.  The council gave her permission and arrangements would be work out when she needed it.  Steve Smith issued a complaint about intruders that came onto his property and stole his trailer. He has had confrontations with them and wants them caught and stopped.  The marshal was unaware of the situation and assured him that it would be taken care of.
