Vision Presentation

VISION PRESENTATION
Ward
Odom, Town Manager, introduced Matthew Blackburn, a recent graduate of Purdue
University. Matthew Blackburn presented
to the Council and guests a report he completed in partial fulfillment of the
requirements for his Landscape Architecture Senior Project. His
program was entitled:
A VISION FOR HUDSON
IDEAS AND METHODS TO RAISE AWARENESS
AND SPARK INTEREST IN REDEVELOPMENT
WITHIN THE COMMUNITY
He
began with a brief history of the Town of Hudson, using early photographs of
Hudson and then moving into the future for the town. If the town is to grow, change, prosper, or
be revitalized, the citizens must become engaged. He emphasized that the people were the main
key. He presented many ideas of various
ways to achieve this involvement and ideas to build on to make the downtown
area more appealing and attractive for future growth, business that could
support the local economy. He encouraged
the planting of more trees, provide improved sidewalks, additional park or
gathering places, and a possible pedestrian walkway or bike train to the lake,
cemetery, businesses on SR 4 and even “a rails to trails” along the railroad
easement that could connect with other towns. There are grants and
organizations that could be researched to help in creating this vision. He reemphasized that people and volunteers
are the key factor in this endeavor.

submitted,
