FIRST PUBLIC HEARING 2010 BUDGET

August 28, 2009

CALL TO ORDER: Town Council President Brian Hayes called the First Public Hearing of the 2010 Budget to order at 6:30 p.m.

ATTENDEES: Bill Ebert, Ed Miller, Lindsay Myers, Anna Platt, Brenda Mast, Louise Brock, Gene Hamm, Betty Hamm, Randy Depew, Natalie DePew, Phil Dawson, Justin Pence, and Jennifer Pence

The council was given copies of the projected budget, as well as to those in attendance. The clerk-treasurer also went over some of the changes from the 2009 Budget.

• The assessed valuation for 2010 is projected at $14,656,830. In 2009 it was $15,792,018, a decrease in the tax base of $1,135,188, which is a 7.2% cut.
• No changes in employee pay for 2010 except for the Public Safety which is a FEMA SAFER grant. That pay rises from $27, 000 to $27,810, a 3% increase.
• There is an announced NIPSCO increase of 14% in electric.
• Increased vehicle repairs and gas by 29% to $17,000.
• Local Roads and Streets reduced to $4,000 based on state tax projections.
• Major Moves Fund reduced to $10,981 to reflect interest rates.
• Local Option Income Tax Fund added with all expenditures directed at public safety as required by law. $9,000 per year estimate.
• Following total amounts in all funds for various activities:

a. Trees: $2,000

b. Street repairs: $26,265

c. Sewer Improvements: $26,000

Town Vehicle: $3,000 accumulation

The President asked if there were any questions. Having none, the President made a motion to adjourn. Motion seconded by Kathy Kope. Meeting adjourned.
