the Town Council meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

MINUTES: Motion made by
Steve Smith,
second by Kathy Kope to approve the January 25, 2007 minutes. Motion carried.
FIRE
DEPARTMENT: The HVFD will have a Chili Lunch on Saturday,
March 01, from 11:00 to 2:00. There will
also be Little League sign-up during this time.
The HVFD Tack Auction will be held on Friday, March 29th,
from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. in the Town Hall.
UTILITY
DEPARTMENT: The utility department was kept very busy
keeping up with snow plowing. The
plow-mount on the 2004 Ford truck needs further reinforcement installed due to
a breakage of the mounting hardware.
Supplier, W.A. Jones in Columbia City, has ordered the additional
bracing and will install the mounting at no additional cost to the town. Jones and Henry Engineering firm will be
checking the Wabash lift station on Monday, March 3rd to see what is
needed to upgrade the system.
CLERK‘S
REPORT: The Clerk-Treasurer will be
attending the ILMCT School at Ball State University during the week of March
9-14, 2008. The next town council
meeting is scheduled for March 28. This
will be spring break for Prairie Heights and MSD of Steuben County starting of
Good Friday the 21st. Due to the Ashley-Hudson Chamber meeting on
the 19th, it is recommended to hold our
meeting on Tuesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m.
Neither council member saw a problem and the meeting will be held on
March 18 at 6:30 p.m..
Word was received of the passing of Phyllis Jean Owen, our attorney’s
mother. I would suggest the town send
flowers or a memorial to the family.
Council approved.
TOWN
MANAGER: Nine purchase orders were issued in February
(January 2 to February 18) for $3,873.83.
There were 2458 visits (6,605 pages) to the Hudson web page in January. This was 19% more visits and 28% more pages than
in January of 2007.The Alliance of Indiana Rural Water and Indiana Rural Community
Assistance Program (USDA) are holding Utility Board Training at Pleasant
Township Fire Department in Laketon, Indiana. There will be three sessions: Managerial Capacity (April 17) Financial
Capacity (August 21), and Technical Capacity (November 13). A request was made
for Ed Miller to attend the November 13 and the Town Manager to attend the
April 17 and August 21 sessions. Steve
Smith made the motion for attendance at this session, seconded by Kathy
Kope. Attorney Jon Owen has completed
and returned the contract for the transfer of the cable company assets to the
Town of Hudson. This contract will be
forwarded to LongView Communications. Contract
was approved and signed by the acting president. We have not received any information
concerning the status of the AFG and SAFER grant application. A location permit
was issued to the U.B. Church on February 25th for a new $250,000
fellowship hall. The work on revisions
to the abandoned vehicles and fireworks due to recent changes in state statutes
is continuing. The next Ashley-Hudson
Festival meeting will be on March 29 at the Farmers State Bank in Ashley. Region III A, the Town Manager and
Clerk-Treasurer will meet with the Fire Hall Architect
on Monday, March 3, in Fort Wayne at 1:30 p.m.
Wage rate decision and finalizing plans will be the focus of the
meeting. The HVFD would like to purchase
4 small desks, 3 storage cabinets. 4 lateral files, and 2 TV’s with stands from
the State Surplus Agency at an estimated cost of $340. It will be necessary to have a voucher from
the town authorizing this purchase. Both
council members gave authorization. The
acting president signed the authority to purchase letter. Lindsay Meyers told the council that the
women’s auxiliary would cover the cost.
Eighteen cots have been located at no charge for the storm shelter in
the new fire hall. E-mail was received
concerning the need of some girls between the ages of 6-10 for the Big
Brother/Big Sisters program in Hudson to be matched with volunteers they
already have. The person to contact is
Elizabeth Brady at (800) 456-1600. As a
note of interest, it was on this date in 1692 that Sarah Good and Tituba, an Indian
servant, were accused of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts.
OLD
BUSINESS: The list of board appointments was given to the council. Acting President Kope asked for any
discussion. Having none, both Kathy Kope
and Steve Smith accepted the appointed members.
NEW
BUSINESS: None
CLAIMS: Claims were approved and signed.
ADJOURNMENT: Motion made by Kathy Kope, seconded by Steve
Smith to adjourn. Meeting adjourned.
