PARK BOARD MEETING
February 10, 2007
The Park Board met on February 10, 2007 at 8:04 a.m. in the Town Hall. Those present were Chad
Minier, Gene Hamm, Sean Walker,
Sarah Odom, and Town Manager, Ward K. Odom. Ward Odom took the minutes.
Since everyone had a copy of the
minutes, reading was suspended by the President, Chad Minier. Sean Walker moved,
second by Chad Minier, and unanimously approved, that the minutes be accepted
as read.
The uses of the Kline Property
and that it had been rezoned as Public Use was discussed as well as the absence
of parking and facilities. The rental of
a porta-john for the State Road 4 was discussed and Larry Johnson
from the Hudson Ball League will be contacted by Chad Minier about using that
location. Since there are going to be
some trees coming into the Town, the Park Board decided that a good use of the
Kline Property would be to put some there and make it a “quiet” park with maybe
a sitting area.
The Alcoa/DNR
grant was rejected due to funding limitations but Pam Loucks with DNR
indicated that Hudson will be able
to procure tree funding due to the emerald ash borer with a few additional
requirements. She is providing the
necessary information.
Sarah
Odom brought up the kids skateboarding in the pavilion and causing damage by
“grinding” on the tables and requested a sign be posted there prohibiting
skateboarding. Following discussion, it
was decided that an ordinance will be presented to the Town Council to prohibit
such activity.
Gene Hamm
mentioned that he thought the flag pole in Hardy
Park needed replacement and he
suggested a telescoping aluminum pole.
Chad Minier requested Ward Odom look into such a pole and bring some
prices to the next meeting for a flag pole approximately the same size as the
existing pole.
Gene Hamm
mentioned that he was going to clean off the sap and repaint the pavilion roof
when the weather breaks and was wondering about the best method to clean. Chad Minier suggested that he ask Brian Hayes
as he deals with outside structures. (Gene
Hamm and Brian Hayes discussed cleaning solutions prior to
the Town Council meeting which followed.)
Chad Minier indicated that he, as
coach of the Prairie Heights Cross Country team, would like to see three 5K-10K
runs in the county with one at Stroh, Orland, and Hudson. The season begins immediately after school is
out and a possible date for the Hudson
run would be July 28 which would permit High School and Junior High School
runners to enter. Additionally, the
earlier date would reduce some of the confusion at the Fire Hall on
Ashley-Hudson Days but still close enough to be an event. He also discussed the addition of a 10K run
with a second loop to the west of Town. Sean
Walker will contact the Ashley-Hudson Chamber of Commerce
about moving the date.
Ward Odom mentioned that he had
attended a meeting at the Steuben County Community Foundation for a Kellogg
grant for equal access to recreational activities. While the Kellogg grant did not really fit
the needs of Hudson, it was
determined that there was the possibility of another grant that might permit
funding for improvements to Hardy Park. Ina addition to accessible playground
equipment and a ramp at the pavilion, the need to redo the steps by the ball
diamond concession stand was discussed.
The next meeting was set for March
10, Saturday, at 8:00 am at the Town
Hall. Chad Minier moved, second by Gene
Hamm, and unanimously approved that the meeting be adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Ward K, Odom
Town Manager
Approved.
